ROUSING THE DARK HORSE
IMPROVISATION AUTHORS CHANGE...
My primary culture is Adaptation. I command an authoritative ability to reframe limitation as a by-product of being born with congenital deformities to my hands and feet. This boundless gift has afforded me access to an infinite range of adaptive strategies and creative inner resources.
These skills have been nourished, validated and expanded through personal and professional exposure to the works of such philosophical luminaries as Milton Erickson, Carl Jung, Clare Graves, Peter Brook and TKV Desikachar. I argue that all success is a natural consequence of desire. Further, the effective harnessing of such volatile energies of desire towards objects of self-initiated inquiry (creative learning) generates the fuelling of a small-scaled, internal nuclear fusion, that when carefully tended, ignites sustainable states of motivation and progressive motion in creative exploration.
Considering the hazardous foundations and meandering trajectory of my research, it has only recently dawned that a complex network of tenacious roots travels back through many years of seemingly disparate, hybrid arts projects and experimental performing arts productions. The grappling of such an unweildy basket of catholic ideologies has formed the calluses of a resiliently cohesive, thematic basis for developing a sustaining methodology throughout my multi-disciplinary inquiry. Reflecting back over the territory I have observed that my relationship to the body of my work may not best be described in a filmic reference, rather, I have recognized that my personal quest has always been, and continues to be to lure, inspire and animate unexpressed creative capacity.
IMPROVISATION ELICITS THE STRONGEST DESIRE TO WITNESS CHANGE THROUGH CREATIVE SELF-ACTUALISATION
